Sushmita Sen loves children. The actor, along with the finalists of I Am She beauty pageant, was recently seen having a good time with the kids of Sunil and Mana Shetty’s NGO Save The Children India at Bandra in Mumbai.Sreya Basu catches up with the ex-Miss Universe.

What made you visit Save the Children NGO?
There are so many hearing, speech or intellectually impaired children in India who are studying hard with hearing aids and other devices. 
So it (Save The Children India) is giving hope and a life which a lot of us can only dream to do. But they actually do it. We are really privileged that we were allowed to spend some time with the kids. 
What is the most memorable part of your visit to the NGO?
I have made lots of lovely boyfriends (the kids at the NGO), who have been extremely affectionate. Don’t miss this part. They just all clung to me. (Laughs) 

Is it mandatory for I Am She finalists to do charity works? 
It was important for us as all our three winners (of I Am She) work on different causes.
Last year also, they achieved a lot of targets, we raised funds for our organizations. I am happy that this year too my girls are getting chance to interact with people and contribute towards the society. 

When they will win (the crown) this year, then for the next one year, they will have a target to raise up to Rs 10 lakh each fro corporates and events so that the money can go to an organization through I Am Foundation. 

So every year we do our homework to find out which organization is really working well in our country; who will actually spend the money on the welfare of the society. 

We are teaching the finalists of I Am She that you can’t live alone in this world. 

You have to see everything in a big canvas so that they can realize that they are a small member of such a big country and a bigger world. So unless you make a difference in the world, you won’t be a productive citizen of a country or world.

Do you remember the first time you visited an NGO?
Seventeen years back when for the first time I came to such an organization was in South America…in Colombia. 

There the children couldn’t speak my language and nor I could speak their lingo. But still I made so many friends there that even today, though the kids have grown up now, they remember me as ‘Sush’. 

So I believe that once you make an impression in someone’s life, it lasts a long way. 

You are also associated with Salman Khan’s NGO Being Human…
I have a long relationship with Being Human, not just because it’s Salman Khan’s organization (as you have seen, we have always been part of any fund-raising events organized by it). 

But for me, it’s anybody who does good work, I will support them and would like to do through I Am Foundation. 

You seem to go along with kids really well…
Children are the loveliest gifts of nature. We always complain that we don’t have this or don’t have that, but special children teach us either you mourn your defects and what’s lacking or celebrate the gifts that God has bestowed upon you. 

As for me, I am used to carrying two babies on my lap. Aadat par jati hai. For any mother, carrying a kid on her lap is a natural and most beautiful posture.

What happened?
John Abraham and Bipasha break up after a decade of being in a relationship. 
When?
The actual split happened mid-February but they decided to keep it away from the media.
Why confirm now?
The timing is perfect. Bipasha has moved on and is busy shooting her Hollywood crossover film Singularity and also Abbas Mustan's Players. She felt it was important for everyone to know after reports of her link up with Josh Hartnett started surfacing. 
Friends reveal that she had given John the permission to talk about it if he wanted. "It was very obvious when John walked in solo on the sets of Koffee with Karan that they were done, says the source.
But he decided to keep shut, only opening up to few of his close friends. With Bips getting close to Josh after his recent break up with his girlfriend Sophia Lie, it was the right time for her to come out in the open. 
Cause of break up?
Close friends confirm that there was not one but several reasons for the impending split. 
Won't marry
The biggest being John's inability to commit to settling down. A friend on basis of anonymity spills the beans, "10 years is not a short time. Other couples would have settled down ages ago, but they obviously wanted to focus on their careers and make money.
But over the last two years Bipasha was getting increasingly frustrated with his attitude towards their relationship. He had started taking her for granted and it really hurt her." 
Growing insecurity 
Secondly, Bips was always insecure of John and whenever she would go on outdoors she would get to hear of his growing proximity with either his co-stars (Katrina during New York, Vidya during Salam-e-Ishq) or up coming models. She had grown tired of turning a deaf ear to these whispers. 
Koffee episode
Things became extremely awkward when John went on KWK and made statements like he was a 'bed breaker' and his house was a 'toll naka'. 
When Bipasha saw the episode she went red in the face. John had very much made it official that he was single by saying such things. She decided before he would make any more such statements it was time to come out clean. 
Salman panga 
However, the biggest blow came when John heard that Bipasha was trying to make her way into Salman's camp and sending him feelers.
"He was hurt that she was trying hard to get a film with Salman. Despite public declaration from John-Salman that they are no longer enemies, the fact remains that they still despise each other.
When he confronted Bips she denied and that got him more upset. They would keep having loud verbal arguments with things being thrown around. Friends would try to intervene but to no avail." 
No show at V-day
The source adds that Bipasha had a small party at her pad for Valentines Day. Surprisingly, John showed up as well. But there were no sparks between the two and the visible lack of chemistry became the topic of discussion in their friend circle.
Chances of patch up? 
While some might like to believe they would reconcile, sources confirm that the two have separated for good. Bipasha is already more than just friends with Josh and John is officially back to enjoying his singlehood status.

It's one of the saddest days of my life: Madhuri Dixit

Husain's muse recalls her cherished association with the 95-year-old, who she says was a child inside 

Husainsaab leaves back so many memories. The most endearing thing about him was his zest for life. He was a child inside. He would keep telling me, 'Wah, you are my favourite, ' like a child. It is one of the saddest days of my life.
Apart from being a wonderful artist of course, he was such a spontaneous human being. There are so many memories attached to him. Every time he would call me, he would ask 'Hows mother India doing?'
Mother India
After Arin (her first son) was born, he had named me mother India. I have been in constant touch with him. But since the last two years, we could talk only once in two or three months, because he was traveling a lot. 

Whenever he would call, he would say, 'Where are you? I am here'. And I would say where is this here? You are always on the move, London, Qatar, some other place...

Unique man
What a personality! He was 95 and not once one would feel that he was that old. He had so many goals. He told me that he is keen on making a comedy movie. I would think that when I am 95, will I even have half his energy, if at all I am alive? 
He was truly a creative person. I have never heard him complaining or cribbing about anything in life. He would spend most of his time dreaming about what he could create, and what he could do next. That kept him going and gave him so much energy. Truly a unique man.

So many memories

He burned so bright and then he went away just like that. My son remembers him very fondly. So many memories, so many memories. I don't know how to put the experience of meeting such a man in words. He had lived for a century, he had seen so much; he had traveled so much, overcome so much.

Life of India

Only thing that saddened him that he couldn't go back to India. Once or twice he mentioned to me that he missed Diwali, Holi and other religious events that happened in India. He would keep saying India is so lovely and I can't see it any more.

I think a corner of his heart ached to go back home. He was from Pandharpur and he wanted to go back there too. That's only the saddest thing. Otherwise he lived a full, creative life.

Fond memories

Reema Rakesh Nath, the producer of Mohabbat (starring Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Kapoor and Akshaye Khanna) where MF Husain made his debut as an actor, remembers him fondly. "I had to convince Husainsaab to do that scene. He played himself in the film and the scene was an art gallery where Madhuri meets Akshaye.

Husainsaab suggested that all the paintings in the gallery should be his, to lend authenticity to the scene. It was really a huge honour to have him with us."

Kunal Kapoor, who worked in M F Husain's directorial venture Meenaxi: A Tale Of Three Cities says, "He was an incredible man and it was my good fortune that I had a chance to interact with him personally and professionally.

You meet a man like him once in a lifetime. His passion, zest and love for life was unparalleled. He will be deeply missed." 

Shreyas Talpade, who was approached by MF Husain to play him in a biography, recollects, "The meetings with Husainsaab have been the most unforgettable moments of my life. 

He took me to the places where he grew up and used to paint film hoardings. He invited me to an Eid party at his ancestral home, where I had one of the best paaya soups with him. I will miss his energy, enthusiasm, passion for life."

"I asked him once why he doesn't wear slippers, and he narrated an incident when he wasn't allowed in a hotel once. So he decided to not to wear slippers at all. He told me that it's natural acupuncture and allowed him to sit on his knees and paint, " said Talpade.
