'Aarakshan' targeted by politicians

Mumbai, Jul 28 : Prakash Jha's upcoming film 'Aarakshan' is in the cross-fire of political censorship with OBC protagonists and Dalit leaders, terming the storyline as 'Anti-dalit' and 'unconstitutional'.
Maharashtra PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who runs 'Samata Parishsd', an organisation of the Other Backward classes, has threatened to launch a statewide agitation if the film propagated Anti-Reservation sentiments.

Talking to reporters here last evening, Mr Bhujbal said that if someone is trying to propagate against the concept of reservations enshrined in the constitution, then ''we will oppose the release of the film''.

He said his parishad would launch an agitation. ''We can not allow anyone to misuse their freedom of expression to oppose concepts which have protection of the constitution'', he said.

Meanwhile, RPI leader Ramdas Athavale has also objected to the film, saying his party would oppose the film if the contents are deterimental to the interests of Dalits and if it attemps to paint the upper castes in good light.

The film, featuring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role, is a socio-political drama with focus on caste-based reservations in government jobs and educational institutions. it is scheduled for August 12 release all over the country, Mr Bachchan has, however, denied that the film was against the reservation system.
